          A homeowner contacted us after receiving an $8,000.00 quote from another company to replace their electrical panel. The panel replacement was presented as the solution to a problem with their air conditioning system.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Before recommending any major work, we performed a full diagnostic evaluation.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           ﻿

          What we found was very different.

          The air conditioning control board was not receiving proper voltage. The issue was caused by a failing two-pole breaker. We also discovered a previous temporary repair that created a serious safety concern.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          One of the circuits feeding the air conditioning system had been cut. Jumpers were added to the primary circuit, placing number ten gauge wire on a seventy amp breaker. This setup could have overheated and posed a real fire risk.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          To correct the issue, we replaced the faulty breaker, properly reconnected the cut circuit, and restored the correct voltage to the air conditioning control board. We also performed thermal imaging on the panel, which confirmed that the heat was coming from the failing breaker, not the panel itself.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          While the panel does show signs that it should be considered for replacement in the future, it was not required to safely repair the air conditioning system.
